To kick things off, could you share a little about your journey and what led you to the world of skincare?

My journey into skincare has been shaped by both my personal experiences and my professional background. I'm a registered pharmacist with over 15 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, working across medical affairs, compliance, and regulatory affairs. But it was my PhD in skin science, with a specific focus on transdermal delivery, that truly ignited my passion for understanding how the skin works at a deeper level.

Growing up, I experienced my own skin challenges, and like many people, I found myself overwhelmed by the sheer volume of products on the market, most of which only offered surface-level solutions. The more I studied skin biology, the more I realised that true skin health requires an approach that goes beyond what you apply topically. That realisation became the foundation for everything I've built with Complete by DR SCS.

Wow, so your extensive education and background is obviously a major factor in your success in creating skincare systems that really work. What experiences or studies would you say have been the most influential in this journey?

My PhD research was pivotal. It gave me an in-depth understanding of the skin's structure, its barrier function, and how active ingredients are absorbed and utilised. I spent years studying transdermal delivery systems, which is essentially the science of getting ingredients to where they need to be within the skin for maximum effect.

Beyond my doctoral work, my career in pharmaceutical medical affairs taught me the importance of evidence-based approaches and rigorous scientific standards. Working across haematology and oncology gave me a deep appreciation for how the body functions as an interconnected system. That systems-level thinking is exactly what I bring to skincare. Your skin doesn't exist in isolation; it's influenced by your nutrition, your gut health, your hormones, and your overall wellbeing. Once you understand that, the whole approach to skincare changes. 

Absolutely! And we are really thankful that you have brought this to our attention through your brand. On that note, would you mind walking us through the inspiration for creating 'Complete by DR SCS'? What drove you to develop this line?

The inspiration came from a frustration I think many people share. I looked at the skincare market and saw two separate worlds that rarely spoke to each other: topical skincare on one side and nutritional supplements on the other. People were buying serums, creams, and treatments, and then separately taking supplements like collagen, biotin, or vitamin C, with no real strategy for how these work together.

I knew that the most effective approach to skin health combines targeted topical treatment with specific internal support. The skin is our largest organ, and it responds to what we feed it from both sides. So I set out to create integrated systems where the topical and the nutraceutical are formulated to complement each other, working synergistically to deliver results that neither could achieve alone. That's the "inside-out" philosophy at the heart of Complete by DR SCS.

Amazing, and this is what really differentiates your approach from the traditional skincare methods…before we move on, can you explain a little bit more about this holistic inside-and-outside philosophy you emphasise for those who are unfamiliar with it?

Traditional skincare focuses almost exclusively on what you put on your skin. While well formulated topical products can absolutely make a difference, they can only do so much on their own. Your skin cells are built and repaired using the nutrients available in your body, so if you're not supporting that process internally, you're only addressing half the picture.

Our approach pairs clinical-grade topical treatments with targeted nutraceuticals that are specifically formulated to support the same skin concern. For example, our Protect System combines a potent anti-ageing serum with capsules containing CoQ10, skin-specific vitamins, and antioxidants that support cellular repair from within. The two products are designed to amplify each other's effects.

This isn't about adding more products to your routine. It's actually about simplifying it. Each system replaces the need for multiple separate serums and supplements, giving you everything your skin needs in just two products.

And that’s the skincare dream! So, right now, you have three exceptional skincare systems in the 'Complete' range. How did you decide on these specific systems, and what makes each one unique?

I chose the three most common and impactful skin concerns that people struggle with throughout their lives.

The Protect System targets ageing and prevention. It features a dual retinoid serum alongside capsules rich in CoQ10, ceramides, and targeted antioxidants. This system is designed for anyone who wants to preserve their skin's quality or reverse visible signs of ageing, and it's formulated to be effective yet gentle enough for sensitive skin.

The Clarify System addresses breakouts and acne-prone skin. The serum contains clinical-strength azelaic acid and other active ingredients that regulate sebum and provide antibacterial protection, while the capsules include probiotics and hormonal support nutrients to address the internal drivers of acne. It's about treating the root causes, not just the symptoms.

The Radiance System focuses on brightening and tackling concerns like dark spots, melasma, and uneven skin tone. The serum harnesses high-potency vitamin C, and it's paired with our Dual Collagen Complex, which contains both Type I and Type II vegan collagen along with a powerful blend of antioxidants and hyaluronic acid.

Each system was developed to be a complete solution for its specific concern, which is why the brand is called Complete.

Absolutely, and they are just that! Moreover, the ingredient lists of your products are impressive too, highlighting a remarkable combination that, as you mentioned, minimises the necessity for several products while clearly maintaining an exceptionally high standard of quality. What was the formulation process like for you?

The formulation process was extensive and deeply personal. I drew on my PhD research, my pharmaceutical experience, and years of studying published clinical data to identify the most effective ingredients for each concern, not just what's trendy, but what the science actually supports.

One of my key priorities was potency without irritation. Many clinical-grade ingredients can be harsh, so I spent considerable time working on delivery systems and supporting ingredients that allow the active compounds to work effectively while keeping the formulations gentle on the skin.

For the nutraceuticals, I was equally rigorous. Every ingredient was selected based on clinical evidence for its role in skin health, and the dosages were carefully calibrated. I also focused on bioavailability, ensuring that the nutrients are in forms your body can actually absorb and use.

The goal was always to create systems where you don't need anything else. One serum, one supplement, working together. That simplicity is intentional, but achieving it required incredibly detailed and considered formulation work.

This goal has certainly been accomplished, and for that we are thankful…we're also particularly intrigued by the dual collagen complex in the 'Radiance System' because vegan collagen is still quite hard to find! Could you tell us more about the two types in your product and why it performs better than other collagen supplements?

This is something I'm really proud of, and it's our best seller for good reason. To understand why it's different, it helps to know a bit about the vegan collagen landscape. Traditionally, vegan collagen supplements have been quite basic, often just a blend of vitamins and amino acids loosely marketed as "collagen support." They weren't really collagen at all. What we use is next-generation biomimetic vegan collagen, which replicates the structure of human collagen at a molecular level. It's a genuinely different category, and I believe it's going to change the world of collagen supplementation.

Our Dual Collagen Complex contains both Type I and Type II biomimetic collagen, which is rare. Type I is the most abundant collagen in the skin and is essential for firmness, elasticity, and structural integrity. Type II supports the deeper layers, playing an important role in joint health and deeper hydration, which has knock-on benefits for skin quality too. Most supplements on the market don’t contain Type II missing out on joint benefits where collagen data is strongest. Combining both in a single vegan formulation gives far more comprehensive support.

What also sets this apart is the supporting formulation. We've included high-potency vitamin C, which is essential for your body's own collagen synthesis, alongside hyaluronic acid and a botanical antioxidant blend. These aren't just thrown in as extras. They're cofactors, included at the right doses based on published clinical evidence, to ensure the

collagen is properly utilised by the body. Bioavailability was a priority throughout the formulation process, because there's no point including an ingredient if your body can't absorb and use it effectively.

The delivery format and taste matters too. We conducted extensive taste tests and formulated in single-dose ready to use sachets to be simple to incorporate into a daily routine. Consistency is everything when it comes to collagen, and making it easy was one of the key considerations.

Incredible, you've truly addressed every aspect for optimal outcomes! It's amazing to hear about; thank you for providing that valuable information. Another highlight of your products is their gentle nature, providing powerful results without irritation. How do you achieve this balance of effectiveness and kindness to the skin?

This is where formulation science is really important. It's not just about which ingredients you use, but how you deliver them. Many products on the market use high concentrations of active ingredients without considering how the skin will tolerate them, which leads to irritation, redness, and sometimes makes the original concern worse.

I've also used ingredients that are newer than traditional which are less irritating for example Tetrahydrodecyl Ascorbate (a highly stable, lipid-soluble form of vitamin C) in the Radiance serum and Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate (a next-generation retinoid) in the Protect serum. I've focused on optimising the delivery of each active ingredient so that it reaches the right layer of the skin at the right concentration. This means you get clinical-level results without the harshness. The formulations also include carefully selected supporting ingredients that soothe and protect the skin barrier while the actives do their work.

It was really important to me that our products are suitable for sensitive skin and all skin tones. Effective skincare shouldn't come with a trade-off of discomfort, and I believe we've achieved that balance across all three systems.

You have undoubtedly succeeded in this, and we can attest to it! Now, for customers eager to see results, how long should they expect to wait? Does this timeframe differ across the various skincare systems you offer?

This is a great question and one I always want to be transparent about. Skin has a natural renewal cycle of approximately 28 days, so most people will begin to notice visible changes within the first few weeks of consistent use. But deeper, lasting changes occur after regular, consistent use. Our independent consumer trials across 93 participants confirmed that week 8 is a key transformation window across all three systems, with satisfaction scores peaking at or near their highest at that point.

With the Radiance System, many users report seeing improvements in skin brightness and a reduction in dullness within two to four weeks. In our independent consumer trial, 81% reported natural radiance and reduced dullness by week 4, with 84% noticing fine lines starting to reduce. By eight weeks, 91% reported deeply hydrated skin with improved moisture retention, and 88% said their skin felt firmer from the collagen. At 12 weeks, 81% described a lit-from-within glow.

The Protect System tends to show its effects progressively. You may notice improved hydration and skin texture quite quickly: 77% reported smoother skin and a stronger barrier by week 4, with 81% overall satisfaction at that point. The more significant benefits, such as reduced fine lines and increased firmness, become more pronounced over eight to twelve weeks. By 12 weeks, 84% of participants reported no new wrinkles had appeared, and 77% confirmed visibly reduced fine lines and firmer skin. Importantly, 84% experienced no irritation or discomfort throughout, which is significant for a retinoid-based system.

The Clarify System can show early improvements within a couple of weeks as breakouts begin to calm. In our trial, 90% of participants reported overall satisfaction at just four weeks. By eight weeks, 87% said their skin was clearer than at week 4, confirming progressive improvement, and 80% reported breakouts were rare. At 12 weeks, 83% reported their skin had cleared significantly, and what really sets Clarify apart is that 83% also reported bloating had significantly reduced or resolved, with 80% experiencing more regular bowel movements. That dual outcome from the gut-skin axis approach is something no topical-only product can deliver.

Trials with our Dual Collagen Complex show that consumers report firmer skin by 8 weeks (88%), with 75% noticing stronger nails, healthier hair and improved overall wellness by 12 weeks. The published clinical data behind VeCollal shows a 32.9% reduction in wrinkles and a 7.7% increase in collagen density in just 8 weeks. For joint health, our VeCollal Type II clinical data shows participants noticed a 44% reduction in joint discomfort, 67% reduction in stiffness and 61% improvement in physical function over 12 weeks, with noticeable improvements beginning at 8 weeks.

Lastly, what advice would you give to someone just starting their skincare journey with your products? Any tips for maximising their effectiveness?

My biggest piece of advice is to be consistent and patient. Our systems are designed to work progressively, building real, lasting improvements in your skin health. Use both the serum and the capsules daily as directed, because it's the combination that delivers the full benefit.
