To start our conversation, could you share what inspired the creation of Lingora, and what was the journey like to bring it to life?
For many years, Dr Pirjo Pärnänen (Associate Professor in Oral Microbiology, DMD, PhD) was running her own private dental practice in Helsinki, Finland. At her practice, she met with numerous patients with yeast infections and dry mouth symptoms. She soon discovered a strong link between asthma medications and dry mouth. She set out to find a natural remedy to combat these conditions and delved into an old Finnish practice of using wild grown Lingonberries hand-picked from the forests to treat various health issues. She became curious if similar principles could be applied to help her patients.
With her degree in both dentistry and biochemistry, and access to the research laboratories of the University of Helsinki, she started examining the effects of lingonberry against oral yeast infection using modern western methodology.
The road to success has not been an easy one for Dr Pärnänen. From its conception to clinical trials and now an established brand, she has worked tirelessly to perfect her product for over 15 years. In her words “Had I known in the beginning how difficult and complex the process would be, I probably wouldn’t have even started it”. Fortunately for everyone, Dr Pärnänen persevered with her invention and today the results speak for themselves!

The fermentation process is used to reduce the natural occurring sugars in the lingonberry to a safe level for oral use. 100 g of wild arctic lingonberries contain up to 8 g of sugars, therefore it is imperative that the fermentation process takes place to reduce sugars to produce a product that is safe to use on a daily basis whilst still harnessing the power of the nutrients of the lingonberry. Dr Pirjo Pärnänen has achieved just that through her patented process.
She is undoubtedly a genius! Moving on, how would you describe the flavour profile of Lingora? Is it something users will enjoy?
It is fruity and tart to begin with, and has a smooth finish that doesn’t sting the mouth or tongue. The taste is often mentioned by many of its users with positive feedback all round.
